Logical, but still

The next edition of the mighty Audi RS6 will be a (plug-in) hybrid. That would have been confirmed by Stephan Reil of Audi Sport himself.
The news comes from the Australian Wheels, from Whichcar, which recently sat down with Reil. We had to turn the words around, but then it really seems to be that the RS6 of the C9 generation will be a hybrid. “A next generation will definitely be more hybridized,” he says literally. That it is a plug-in hybrid is the interpretation of Wheels itself. However, it is not illogical. Although plug-ins have fallen out of favor for ‘normal’ cars, they are still regarded as a good way to steer the theoretical CO2 emissions of cars with a combustion engine towards utopian values.
The electrical power will undoubtedly mean that the RS6 has to exchange its current 4.0-litre V8 for something smaller, but ‘hybrid’ at the same time guarantees that there are still some cylinders to be found under the hood. Moreover, the total power can still be higher, although that is by no means a guarantee of more spectacle. The RS6 in its current form delivers 560 hp and 700 Nm as standard. The Audi über station wagon is of course still based on the A6, but has now acquired a legendary status among certain target groups. It also helps that the current generation is the first RS6 in years sold in the United States. The RS6 recently blew out 20 candles and judging by today’s news, the end is not in sight.
Of course, a new RS6 also means a ditto A6. That model will most likely be split into two different models in the near future. The regular A6 is in fact accompanied by the Audi A6 e-tron, a fully electric model that should also appear ‘just’ as an Avant.
