The ambitious Nio will make the crossing to Europe this year. It is now also known with which model Nio sets foot on the Dutch shore: the ET7. The Nio ET7 is a pretty interesting car in every way on paper.

In a relatively short time, Nio has managed to develop into a serious car manufacturer. For the time being, mainly in its home country China, but the company wants nothing more than to sink its teeth into the European market. That will happen this year. This year Nio will deliver its first models in the Netherlands, and that is not exactly the least.

Nio?

Just a quick look back. Nio was officially founded in 2014 and introduced its first car with the EP9. The EP9 was an electric supercar and therefore a real niche product. Nio’s purely electric portfolio now consists of the ES8 presented in 2017, the ES6 released a year later, the EC6 unveiled in 2020 and the brand new ET5 and ET7. In time, this ES7 and a smaller crossover will also be added. The ET7 is Nio’s first car to come to Europe and that is directly Nio’s highest positioned low model.

The Nio ET7 is not an electric SUV or crossover, but a wattle of an electric sedan with which Nio wants to make life miserable for the Tesla Model S. With a length of 5.01 meters, the Nio ET7 is a few centimeters longer than its great American rival. The wheelbase of the ET7 is no less than 3.06 meters. In China it is available with battery packs of 70 kWh, 100 kWh and 150 kWh. Nio gives an enormous range of 1,000 kilometers for the variant with 150 kWh battery, although this has been measured via the CLTC test cycle, which is not comparable with the WLTP method.

Nio ET7

The first copies of the Nio ET7 are already on their way to Europe.

Regardless of the chosen battery pack, the Nio ET7 has a 245 hp electric motor at the front and an electric heart of 408 hp at the rear. The system power is 653 hp and 850 Nm. The Nio ET7 thunders in its strongest form in 3.8 seconds to 100 km/h and is – at least in China – pretty good in its stuff as standard. The ET7 has adaptive air suspension, adaptive dampers, Brembo brakes, a large vertically oriented 12.8-inch infotainment screen, digital 10.2-inch instrumentation, a panoramic glass roof and soft close-doors with recessed handles. Also standard: an electrically operated tailgate, semi-autonomous driving systems with 33 sensors and an on-board digital assistant. Even fourteen-way electrically adjustable, heated and ventilated massage seats in the front are standard and even in the back you sit on a ventilated and heated rear seat with massage function. Passengers in the back can choose various settings via a 6.6-inch measuring screen.

Nio will open the order books of the ET7 in the Netherlands this year and also says that the first copies will be delivered this year. We do not yet have a Dutch price. In China, the Nio ET7 costs at least €66,780 converted. Nio will soon also introduce the ET7 in Norway, Germany, Denmark and Sweden. In Norway, Nio already sells the ES8. Nio will probably later also bring one or more electric SUVs and the ET5 – a competitor of the Tesla Model 3 – to our country.
