Up to 600 kW!

Until now, we thought that the 5.10 meter long Nio ET7 was a true flagship, but at Nio they still see a gaping hole at the top of the range. This will be filled with this Nio ET9, a luxury top limousine that can charge very quickly.
Admittedly, compared to competitors such as the Mercedes-Benz EQS and BMW i7, the Nio ET7 still lacks some length. The Nio ET9 makes up for that and, with a length of 5.33 meters, is longer than the EQS and only a few centimeters shorter than the i7. Its wheelbase of 3.25 meters exceeds that of both competitors, which already makes it clear about the intentions of the ET9. That’s right: space. The ET9 is also quite high at 1.62 meters and has a shape that can be called unusual for this segment. Instead of the traditional ‘three-box’ sedan shape, with a separate luggage compartment, the ET9 is a car with a roof that extends far to the rear and a convex back. This creates a liftback-like profile, although the ET9 is secretly a sedan. In terms of design, the Nio ET9 is no surprise: apart from its size and silhouette, it looks exactly like the ET7 and ET5.
That’s different on the inside. The Nio ET9 seems to be aimed at luxury executive transport and has four spacious seats and an enormous center console that runs through the interior like a bridge from front to back. In the rear, the ‘bridge’ provides, among other things, extra storage compartments, telephone chargers and folding tables. Large screens have also been installed on the backrests of the front seats, so that work and private life can merge from the rear seats in the most practical way possible.
Nio ET9
The Nio ET9 is not only impressive because of its size and appearance, but especially because of its specifications. Nio mentions a 900-volt architecture, which should enable charging speeds of up to 600 kW. That is not only special in an absolute sense, but especially special for Nio. This brand has more or less ignored high charging speeds until now because it firmly believed in changing batteries, which is always faster than fully charging. For example, the ET7 does not exceed 140 kW, a pittance compared to many competitors. According to Nio, the ET9 can store 255 kilometers of electricity in 5 minutes. Not quick enough? Then you can of course also change the batteries as usual, which should be done in 3 instead of 5 minutes at one of Nio’s recently announced 4.0 changing stations.
The Nio ET9 can now be ordered by Chinese customers and will be delivered in its home country of China from 2025. That will take some time, and at the time of writing the brand is not mentioning a European career at all.
