Nissan 370Z successor gets top version with 480 hp

While we recover from the news that Nissan will probably disappear from Europe for the most part, there is fortunately also something nicer to report about the brand. The successor of the now quite old 370Z is likely to become considerably more powerful.

The Nissan 370Z is still available as new, but the best time of the sports car is long gone. The sports coupe has been around for ten years now and has managed to convince few potential buyers. Fortunately, a successor is being worked on behind the scenes, which is said to be a solid nod to the past. Rumors that the car looks like the famous 240Z / Fairlady (photo 2) from the 1970s have been going around for a long time. Unfortunately, no concrete picture has yet emerged of the newcomer to confirm this, but interest has certainly been piqued.

One of the things that Nissan undoubtedly wants to change with the 370Z successor is the motor potential of the car. With the atmospheric 3.7-liter V6, the 328 hp 370Z is certainly not badly endowed, but it does not really deliver blood-curdling performance. It is all the more interesting that, according to the Japanese Spyder7, Nissan is preparing the 3.0-liter biturbo V6 of the Infiniti Q60 for the new ‘Z’. That is 400 hp in the Q60, so that is already a blow more than the 370Z (even if 350 hp Nismo) currently has at its disposal. According to Spyder7, the names 400Z and 480Z go around at Nissan and the number would no longer be an indication of the engine capacity but the power. In that case, the 370Z successor would have standard 400 hp power available, but a top version even 480 hp.

It is of course still somewhat speculative, but it certainly sounds interesting. The Nissan could thereby make archrival Toyota Supra life very sour. For the time being it all seems to take a while before there is more clarity, because apart from a test mule, there has been no sign of life from the new sports coupe. In addition, given the future plans of Nissan, it is very unlikely that the car will come on the market here in the Netherlands.
