Nissan Serena

For those who have been around for a while, just like AutoWeek, the model name Serena will undoubtedly ring a bell. The Nissan Serena has not been for sale in the Netherlands for years, but in its home country Nissan is already introducing the completely new sixth generation of that MPV. The MPV is far from dead and in this case even gets an innovative e-Power powertrain.

Of the five generations of Nissan Serena that existed to date, only the first came to the Netherlands. Between 1992 and 2001 you could step into a practical Serena space giant here, an MPV-like passenger bus that was sold side by side with the order version Vanette. With each generation change, the Serena became more and more a real MPV and today we are introduced to the sixth generation Serena. Just like its predecessor, it will have an interesting e-Power powertrain. Electric driving, without driving an EV. The Serena can do it too.

The Nissan Serena as you may remember it.

Although the MPV segment in Europe has lost out to the SUVs with which the autoland has been bombarded in the last ten years or so, practical space giants of all shapes and sizes are still very much alive outside our continent. The Serena – a competitor of cars such as the Toyota Noah and Voxy – is in any case a big boy again. Depending on the chosen version, the seven- or eight-seater MPV is 4.69 meters or 4.77 meters long. This means that it does not grow compared to the car it replaces. The wheelbase does grow with the generation change by one centimeter to 2.87 meters. Remarkably enough, the legroom for the driver has increased by no less than 12 centimetres. The new Serena is clearly a lot more modern than its predecessor. With its sleeker design, it is neatly in step with its competitors, both inside and out.

In one important area, the Serena distinguishes itself from its counterparts. Like the previous model, the new Serena is also available with the e-Power powertrain. In the Netherlands, the Qashqai and the new X-Trail with e-Power technology are available. This means that the Serenas e-Power are always electrically powered. The electric motor draws its energy from a small battery pack that is constantly powered by a variable compression petrol engine. In the X-Trail e-Power and Qashqai e-Power that is a 1.5. In this Serena, the petrol engine with a capacity of 1.4 liters is slightly smaller. Furthermore, Nissan brings its ProPilot 2 system to the Serena e-Power with which, according to Nissan, you can keep your hands off the wheel at speeds of 40 km / h or higher on the highway.

The new Serena is of course loaded with things like compartments, covers, folding tables and folding screens. The starting price of the Nissan Serena is €19,242 in Japan. In that case you get the Serena with a 150 hp 2.0. The Japanese consumer will pay at least €22,230 for the Serena e-Power.
