Nissan stops production of the Navara in Europe. The factory in Barcelona, where the European variant of the pick-up is currently being built, will close at the end of this year. This means that the Navara is coming to an end here, although Nissan is still investigating possibilities for a ‘restart’ in the future.
The current generation of the Navara has been running since 2014. The pick-up received a facelift at the end of last year, but it has never been delivered here until now. The curtain will fall for the European Navara at the end of this year because Nissan closes its factory in Barcelona. Nissan Netherlands confirms to Techzle that this indeed means that the Navara is on its last legs in Europe.
Incidentally, according to Nissan, that does not immediately mean that it is finally over and out for the Navara on our continent. Opportunities are currently being explored to import the Navara from, for example, Thailand, where the facelifted version is produced. So the door remains ajar. Given the declining interest in pick-ups, however, it seems strong that Nissan will actually make that effort. For now, the last deliveries of the Navara will take place in the course of 2022 and it will be over and out until further notice.
Earlier, Mercedes-Benz also pulled the plug from the X-class, which shared its base with the Navara and was also screwed together in Barcelona. The closure of the factory in Barcelona means that production of the Renault Alaskan also ends there. However, that model was not on the Dutch price list.
