Formula 1 will not hit Azerbaijan, Singapore and Japan this year. Nevertheless, the goal remains unchanged to drive fifteen to eighteen Grands Prix, Formula 1 reports Friday.
Even before the first race of the season, on July 5 in Austria, Formula 1 wants to present the final calendar. The season will end in mid-December with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. “Due to the ongoing challenges surrounding the coronavirus, we and our promoters in Azerbaijan, Singapore and Japan have decided to cancel the races in those countries,” said a statement.
In Azerbaijan and Singapore, racing on a street circuit in the capital makes it very complicated to find a new date. In Japan, strict travel regulations are in force, which means that the race has been canceled.
Previously, the Grands Prix in the Netherlands, Monaco, France and Australia has already been broken. At the beginning of this month, Formula 1 announced the first part of the final calendar with eight races without an audience in Europe from July to September. The plan is to then end the season in the Middle East via Asia, North and South America. The full calendar will be announced within a few weeks.
