The Jeep Renegade and Compass have been available to order as a plug-in hybrid for some time now. But what if you don’t feel like regularly connecting your Italian-American SUV to the charging station? Then Jeep now has an alternative: the new e-Hybrid versions of the Renegade and Compass.
The Jeep Renegade and Compass come in an astonishing array of finishes. The Renegade price list includes the 1.0 GSE T3 with 120 hp, the 1.3 GSE T4 with 150 hp and the two 4Xe plug-in hybrids with 190 and 240 hp. The Compass is available with the same engines, although it has a 1.3-liter turbo engine with 130 hp as an entry-level entry instead of the 1.0 GSE T3.
Jeep Renegade and Compass e-Hybrid with new engine
These e-Hybrid variants are completely new. They are powered by a new 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with 130 hp and 240 Nm and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission as standard. According to Jeep, the Renegade and Compass e-Hybrid consume 15 percent less fuel than the petrol models mentioned above, which will soon be removed from the program.
No full hybrids, but with mild hybrid technology
The Jeep Renegade and Compass e-Hybrid are not full hybrids, but have mild hybrid technology on board. An integrated starter motor / generator, which recovers kinetic energy, stores it in a battery and uses it to help the fuel engine on its way. The machine produces 20 hp and 55 Nm of extra driving power.
New Upland versions with recycled materials
Also new are the Upland versions of the Renegade and Compass. They can be recognized by their own blue exterior color, their black roof and their special wheels (17-inch for the Renegade, 18-inch for the Compass). Jeep claims to have made lavish use of recycled materials in the interior: for the mats, the headliner and seat upholstery and the plastic door and dashboard panels.
