November car sales: almost 18 percent down

It should come as no surprise that the car market is severely harassed by the chip shortage. As a result, the sales figures of new passenger cars in November are also not very good. Only 27,333 new passenger cars were sold in the past month, according to figures from Bovag, RAI Association and RDC.

More than 27,000 cars sounds like a huge fleet, but the 27,333 new passenger cars registered in November are considerably fewer than those that found a warm home in the same month last year. 17.5 percent less, to be exact. It brings the number of new passenger cars registered in the first 11 months of this year to 287,265 units. In the same period last year, that number was more than 8 percent higher at 313,141 units.

The industry associations expect that the worldwide shortage of computer chips will continue to affect the car industry until at least the middle of next year. Bovag and the RAI Association aim to register a total of 327,000 new passenger cars this year. Next year there should be about 390,000 units. Last year, a total of 354,015 new passenger cars found an owner in the Netherlands.

The electric Skoda Enyaq iV was the best-selling passenger car in the Netherlands with 998 registrations in November, followed by the Kia Niro, of which 992 copies were registered. Places three to five are successively filled by the Volkswagen Polo, the Peugeot 208 and the 01 from Lynk & Co. Kia can again call itself the king of Dutch sales in November. With 2,766 new registrations, the brand was good for a market share of more than 10 percent.
