Nuclear power plants in war zones are not only endangered by rocket fire. A destroyed infrastructure can also lead to a nuclear catastrophe.

On the night of March 4, 2022, a blindingly bright light flashed over the site of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant. Russian forces had fired rockets at the facility in southern Ukraine. The training center and a laboratory caught fire. Although the fire was under control after a short time, the shelling of the nuclear power plant on the Dnieper River caused terror around the world and aroused fears of a nuclear meltdown with serious consequences…
