Against the economic contraction

Number of lease cars in the Netherlands increased

The number of leased cars in the Netherlands increased in the first half of the year. This is according to figures from the VNA. The growth is somewhat striking, because the economy contracted during that period.

The number of leased cars grew to almost 1.3 million in the first six months of this year. We are talking about passenger cars and vans. That is an increase of almost 3 percent compared to the same period last year, the Association of Dutch Car Lease Companies (VNA) announced. This while the Dutch economy contracted by 0.4 percent in the first quarter and by another 0.3 percent in the second quarter.

According to the VNA (Association of Dutch Car Leasing Companies), the growth is due to the strong labor market, which means there is more demand for cars from the business market. “A record number of jobs were measured in the second quarter. This ensures strong demand for business mobility,” concludes the VNA. By far the most cars delivered in the first half of this year were petrol cars and diesels. One in three new lease cars is an electric car.
