78 percent in five years

The number of motorhome dealers in the Netherlands has increased enormously over the past five years. In 2017 there were 470 companies in the Netherlands that sell or rent motorhomes, there are now 836.
This is an increase of 78 percent, according to figures from the Chamber of Commerce (KVK) on Tuesday. The fact that more companies are active in selling, renting and maintaining motorhomes is because the Dutch are buying more and more motorhomes. A third of all motorhome dealers are located in two provinces: Gelderland and Noord-Brabant. When looking at the number of companies per inhabitant, Flevoland and Friesland score highest, with 4.4 and 4.2 motorhome companies per 100,000 inhabitants respectively. The province of Utrecht has the lowest score, with one company per 100,000 inhabitants.
Figures from the Bovag show that there are currently 167,471 campers registered in our country. That is 30 percent more than two and a half years ago, when the corona crisis broke out. This ensured that many Dutch people wanted to go on holiday with a camper. According to Martijn de Boer, owner of Eurotrek Campers, the holiday vehicles are popular with people over 50, among others. He also sees that motorhomes are popular with families with children who do not yet have to go to school. They travel through Europe and work remotely.
Although motorhomes are more popular than ever, the peak in sales seems to have been reached. In the first seven months of this year, 30 percent fewer new motorhomes were sold than in the same period last year. The decline in sales among used motorhomes was much less pronounced; 2 percent.
