Nyck de Vries: ‘I made too many mistakes’

Nyck de Vries is certainly not doing well in Formula 1. The Dutchman says he is aware of this, although he does not feel any more pressure than usual.

After his impressive racing debut in Formula 1 last year at Monza, it has been disappointing to date how Nyck de Vries is faring in Formula 1. The 28-year-old driver is certainly not consistent and there are already rumors of a possible replacement, although only five Grands Prix have been held. In his own words, De Vries himself does not get much of this, at most he hears about it through the grapevine. Not that it does much to him at all: “It’s not a shock to me, it’s normal, it’s part of this industry. As a driver you always kind of fight to survive and you always have to deliver to successfully continue your career So it’s actually quite normal, it’s always been like that,” he says Motorsport Week on.

That does not mean that De Vries is not aware of the fact that he must perform better. On the contrary: “I definitely think I made too many mistakes, I freely admit that.” According to him, the potential is definitely there, it’s just a matter of ironing out the wrinkles: “I believe the race pace has been really strong on several occasions. That encourages me and gives me confidence, but in the end I haven’t really been able to put it together yet buttons.” De Vries sees it as part of a learning process. Next Sunday at three o’clock in the afternoon in Monaco, the location where he booked his first victory in Formula 2, he will have a new chance to prove himself.
