October sales figures: -5.3 percent

More than five percent fewer registrations than the same month last year: that is the meager score of the past month. But because everything is relative, that figure is not too bad. The Volkswagen ID.3 in particular managed to limit the damage before October 2020.

Last month, according to the figures of Bovag and RAI Association, 31,988 new passenger cars were registered in the Netherlands and that is 1,784, or 5.28 percent less than the same month last year, when we still shook hands and Corona was a Mexican beer instead. of a modern variation on the Spanish flu. Because September 2020 scored almost 22 percent worse than the same month in 2019, last month was relatively easy. As a result, the cumulative figure is slightly improving, from -24.9 percent last month to -23.1 percent now.

A large part of that relative profit is accounted for by the Volkswagen ID.3, which is therefore 1 of the top 10 models with 2,789 units, more than double the number 2, the Kia Niro. We must, however, note that there are quite a few dealer registrations among those ID.3 numbers, as the introductory circus is in full swing. All in all, Volkswagen is by far number 1 in the brand parade, both last month and cumulatively.

And then the EVs: they have, as expected, started on the final sprint to 2021, when the addition regime picks up again. 7,197 fully electric cars were registered, which is no less than 22.5 percent. For the optimist with some poetic freedom: almost a quarter. Striking is the top-10 EVs, where fun, fresh newcomers such as the Polestar 2 and Mazda MX-30 brighten up the list.

The detailed sales figures and analysis can be found in Techzle 46, which will be published on Wednesday 11 October.
