Plus of 20 percent
Significantly more new cars were sold in the Netherlands in October than in that month last year. It is already the third month in a row that the number of sales is higher than in 2021, although sales are still clearly lagging behind 2019.
In October of this year, 28,992 new passenger cars were sold in the Netherlands, according to figures from Bovag and RDC. That is 20 percent more than in October 2021. Moreover, it is the third month in a row that there has been an increase. In August, 9.2 percent more new passenger cars were sold than last year, in September this was an increase of 4.8 percent. The increase from last month is therefore considerably larger. According to de Bovag, this is mainly due to the fact that the supply problems in the car industry have become less severe.
In addition to the strong increase, the number 1 in the sales figures is also striking. Toyota was the best-selling brand in our country last month. Toyota sold 2,944 new cars here, taking a market share of no less than 10.15%. It is the first time this year that Toyota is at the top, previously it was mainly Kia that took the lead. Volkswagen and Peugeot (both one month) were also at the top this year. However, Toyota was already represented in the top 3 every month except for one month.
The fact that Toyota did such good business in October is mainly due to the Yaris Cross and Aygo X. The Toyota Yaris Cross has made a remarkable advance last month, as it was last in the top 5 in January. The absolute winner if we look at the individual models, however, was the Opel Corsa. It has never reached first place this year, Peugeot brother 208 was ahead of it for months. The Kia Picanto and Volvo XC40 are in second and third place respectively and thus continue to do very well despite their age.
