Apple has officially unveiled Apple Music with Lossless Audio and Spatial Audio. This new version of Apple’s music service offers higher sound quality. You should know this about it.
Apple Music with Lossless Audio officially unveiled
Music lovers pay attention: Apple Music is now also available with ‘lossless audio’, so that music sounds better with richer details. You will especially notice this if you listen to music through high-end headphones or speaker.
The fact that Apple would come up with a premium version of its music service had been in the air for a while. The company even posted a short video in the Music app that read, “Music is about to change forever.”
Lossless Audio is a special kind of music file in which no details have been lost. Normally, a scaled-down version of the recording is used on streaming services so that it requires less storage or uses less data.
An advantage for people with little storage on their device or listeners with a limited data bundle, but a disadvantage for music lovers who want to listen to music in the highest possible quality.
In the meantime, more and more headphones and speakers are supporting lossless audio, but this is only useful if the music service you use also does this. Today Apple is responding to the music lovers by offering a HiFi option with Apple Music as well.
Apple is not the only music service with a HiFi subscription. Since February Spotify has also had a Spotify HiFi version that is 5 to 10 dollars more expensive than a regular subscription. However, Spotify HiFi is not yet available in the Netherlands, while Apple Music HiFi is.
