The car had already been announced, but now Seat is also announcing the price of the Leon plug-in hybrid. The Seat Leon FR PHEV 1.4 TSI e-Hybrid is over two grand cheaper than its Volkswagen counterpart.
- Same powertrain as Volkswagen Golf eHybrid
- Cheaper than Golf brother
- Also as a Sportstourer
The first plug-in version of the Seat Leon shares its technology with, among others, the plug-in version of the Volkswagen Golf, but also, for example, with the Skoda Octavia iV. This means that the old 1.4 TSI (petrol versions have a 1.5), together with the electric motor, helps 204 hp. That’s as much as the old Golf GTE, but less than the new. Since the introduction of the Golf VIII, there has been a dichotomy in the plug-in range at Volkswagen: the version with 204 hp is called eHybrid, while a 245 hp variant is now given the term ‘GTE’.
Although Seat keeps the 245 hp version for sister brand Cupra, the Spaniards consider 204 hp good enough for the sporty FR label. That is the only version in which the newcomer is available for the time being. In that form, the car costs at least € 37,550. That is cheaper than a comparable Golf, which with the same powertrain should cost € 39,835. Even the station wagon version of the Leon, the Sportstourer, is cheaper than the Golf as FR PHEV. Seat charges € 38,750 for this. The Golf VIII Variant has only just been unveiled, a plug-in version of it not yet. Incidentally, a Leon Sportstourer in PHEV trim is considerably less spacious than a conventional Sportstourer: instead of 620 liters, only 470 liters disappear behind the rear seat.
With 204 hp, 350 Nm and a fast-shifting six-speed DSG automatic transmission, the Leon hatchback sprints from 0 to 100 km / h in 7.5 seconds. The Sportstourer takes a little longer, but still remains comfortable within 8 seconds with 7.7 seconds. Electric driving can be maintained for 60 km under optimal conditions, after which the 12.8 kWh battery pack can be fully recharged in three and a half to six hours.
