Oh la la! The Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric has the largest out there [UPDATE: prijzen bekend]

Renault is not modest about it and even shamelessly puts it up for sale: the display on the center console of the Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric. That is the largest there is, brags the French brand. Would that also apply to the electric range of the Volkswagen ID.3 competitor?

Renault is one of the electro pioneers. The brand already introduced the Renault Zoe in 2012, and before that there were also electric copies of the Renault Kangoo for sale. But after that, the French brand did not really go through with it. Other manufacturers have now moved on with plug models. So Renault has some catching up to do.

Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric related to Nissan Ariya

The first step in Renault’s electro offensive is this Mégane E-Tech Electric. It is on the same platform as the Nissan Ariya, but is a lot more compact (4.2 meters long) and thus competes with the Cupra Born, the upcoming Opel Astra-e and the Volkswagen ID.3.

Mégane E-Tech Electric travels up to 470 kilometers

When introduced in early 2022, the Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric will be available in three variants. The first has an electric motor delivering 130 hp and 250 Nm and a 40 kWh battery, with which it can travel up to 300 kilometers. The second is a lot stronger (218 hp and 300 Nm) and has a range of up to 470 kilometers on its full 60 kWh battery. Third, there will be a Business version, which links the 130 hp engine to the 60 kWh battery.

Comparison Volkswagen ID.3 – Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric

How does the Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric compare to its deadly competitor: the Volkswagen ID.3? The entry-level version (130 hp / 40 kWh / 300 kilometers) is opposed to the ID.3 Pure with 150 hp and a 45 kWh battery, which can cover about 349 kilometers on a full charge. The other Mégane (218 hp, 60 kWh / 470 kilometers) can best be compared with the ID.3 with 204 hp, which has a 58 kWh battery and a range of 424 kilometers.

Entry-level Mégane E-Tech Electric can’t charge fast

Both variants of the Volkswagen ID.3 charge with 110 and 150 kW respectively. Renault is right in the middle with 130 kW. This only applies to the Mégane E-Tech Electric with a 60 kWh battery. The loafers cannot fast charge. A maximum of 7 kW (AC) applies to the EV40 130 hp Standard Charge. The EV40 130 hp Boost Charge achieves 22 kW (AC).

Largest infotainment screen in its class, says Renault

The interior of the Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric then, which has a certain eighties vibe, with an angular dashboard and a center console that leans slightly towards the driver. In it, according to Renault, we find the largest screen there is. At least, in the class of the Mégane. Behind the wheel is a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation, with an optional 12-inch infotainment display next to it. If you have less money to spend, you get a 9-inch screen.
