More and more apps are trying to sell you a subscription these days. Now Sonos seems to be the next to have these plans.
Sonos app might get a subscription (but why?)
There are more and more rumors that Sonos will introduce a subscription for the app. These rumors arose, among other things, because the company had to adjust its turnover downwards for the second time in a row.
It also didn’t help that everything you do in the app now has to go through Sonos’ servers first. And this means the company has full control over everything you can and do in the app.
In addition, an ex-employee also added fuel to the fire. He indicates that a lot of money has been invested in the new app, but that the app does not bring in any money. That’s quite strange, unless there is some kind of subscription planned (for later).
However, Sonos has said that there are no plans to add a subscription service to the app at this time. But they haven’t said anything about whether they want to do that in the future.
Renewed app caused many problems
Sonos completely renewed the app at the beginning of this year. That didn’t sit well with many Sono owners, because quite a few functions that were in the old app had disappeared in the new app. Sonos responded quite quickly by quickly bringing back a number of the most important functions. They also promised then that they will continue to add more features.
What Sonos ultimately plans to do remains a matter of speculation. In any case, it would be a shame if the manufacturer of the popular home sound system decides to also introduce a subscription service later.
