Old Opel Astra still available for a while

A completely new generation Opel Astra is eager to sink its teeth into a corner of the car sales pie. The previous Astra will remain available for a while, although the hatchback is only available from stock.

Opel recently pulled the curtain on the all-new Astra (J), which shares its EMP2 base with the new Peugeot 308 and DS 4 Cross, among others. For the time being, we only know the new Astra as a hatchback, but in the long run it will also have a new station wagon next to it, in the form of the Sports Tourer. The outgoing generation Opel Astra is still available, but that will not last long.

The Dutch importer confirms to AutoWeek that the five-door hatchback of the outgoing Astra generation can no longer be configured new. It is still available, but only from stock. However, the station wagon of the current Astra, the Sports Tourer, can still be ordered new because the production of this variant has not yet stopped. That probably won’t last long. Opel has announced the arrival of a new Astra Sports Tourer and so the outgoing type will soon only be available from stock.

Together with the Insignia, the Astra (K) is the last Opel that is still on a platform of the former parent company General Motors. The platform of the new Astra brings a lot of novelties to the model series. For example, the Astra will soon be available with plug-in hybrid powertrains for the first time and in 2023 there will even be a fully electric Astra: the Astra-e.
