On average, almost 8 accidents per hour in the evening rush hour

Due to the increased traffic density, the number of traffic accidents during the evening rush hour has risen sharply over the past four weeks. This is reported by the Incident Management Netherlands Foundation.

The ever increasing traffic volume has led to a significant increase in the number of traffic accidents during the evening rush hour. Incident Management Foundation, responsible for the recovery of passenger vehicles on the major through roads in our country, reports that in the past four weeks, in the afternoons between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. on the main roads an average of 7.8 accidents per hour were counted. An increase of 20 percent compared to the last few weeks before the lockdown was introduced at the beginning of last year. Many traffic accidents have also occurred during the morning rush hour in the past four weeks. On average, there were four accidents per hour between 06:00 and 09:00 in the morning. However, that is 20 percent less than at the beginning of last year.

According to the Incident Management Foundation, an average of 73 traffic accidents took place over the past four weeks. More striking figures: recovery vehicles also saw an increase in the number of times that had to be pulled out for breakdowns. Where there were an average of 240 so-called ‘breakdown movements’ in May, that number was no less than 320 in June.
