On the dynamometer: Alfa Romeo Giulia 2.0T

Should have 320 hp due to tuning

A used Alfa Romeo Giulia 2.0 that drove 190,000 kilometers in three years and has been chip-tuned to 320 hp: a golden opportunity or a dangerous adventure? Sandro Favre dared and bought it in 2022. He has no regrets, because this Giulia is his dream car and Alfa Romeo his brand. He doesn’t get that from a stranger.

Sandro Favre is coming to the dynamometer of Beek Auto Racing today, accompanied by his father Frans. That makes perfect sense. “My first kilometers in a car were in the back seat of a 1967 Alfa Romeo Giulia,” says Sandro. “A classic Alfa from my father Frans. Now I drive a Giulia myself, how cool is that”, he beams. That is certainly cool, because the Giulia looks powerful and distinguished: beautiful wheels, good proportions, fine lines and a strong, almost aggressive front. This is just a beautiful, successful D-segmenter. Sandro takes good care of his Giulia. Only A-brand tires are used and after he bought it, new discs and pads and all fresh fluids were added.

Alfa must be beautiful and drive well

Frans and Sandro Favre are the first to recognize the limitations of Alfa Romeos. “The main thing for Italians is that a car has to be beautiful and the road holding is optimal,” says Frans. “So the emphasis is on that, not necessarily on comfort or how many suitcases you can take with you,” says senior. He adds that he likes it so much that Italians make ‘a party’ out of everything. “I often come there during the holidays and it’s just the people and the culture. A cup of coffee, food, the landscape, the weather, I love it all.”

Standard 2.0T with 280 hp

The history of the Giulia is equally wonderful. This generation of Giulia sees the light in 2015 as Giulia 952. It is intended as a successor to the 159, which disappeared from the market in 2011. The Giulia distinguishes itself with its rear-wheel drive and excellent weight distribution. Sandro’s 2.0-liter turbo engine with a capacity of 200 hp is the basis of the delivery program. In addition, there will be a variant of 280 hp. The Giulia GTA and GTAM will be launched in 2020 with 540 hp. The diesel engine is always the 2.2 liter MultiJet II from 136 to 210 hp.

Owner Sandro thinks something like 320 hp

Sandro is almost lyrical. “Everything about this Giulia is right and every detail is designed to be a pleasure to look at,” he says. Of course, the driving behavior is thick for each other. “I was struck by how eagerly the car attacks a corner when you turn in!” he says. In his eyes, this large middle class is still quite practical and fast. “You really have a lot of reserves when you are on the road. You definitely feel that the car has more than its standard 200 hp. It should be something like 320 horsepower. It doesn’t really matter to me, I have a nice and fast car anyway.”

Sandro likes that, who owns a racing license and a go-kart. He works as a reception/workshop team leader at a dealership, but has also started his own company: the purchase and sale of cars.
Dynamometer chief Ghisbert van Ginhoven enjoys the seating position in the Giulia and is very pleased with the performance of the Alfa Romeo. Sandro is pleasantly surprised that his dream car performs even better than expected. With flying colours, he crosses the finish line with nice numbers. In short, only happy faces!
