We have a beautiful green Audi A4 Avant on the dynamometer. This tweaked TDI has helped a bit and we see that again.
What a beautiful color Pieter Gideonse’s Audi A4 Avant has. In combination with the lots of chrome and the beautiful wheels, it has a very distinguished appearance. We have a diesel in the bank, because Pieter drives almost 40,000 kilometers every year. That’s no punishment with this station wagon.
It was clear from the start that it would be an Audi. Pieter grew up with the Bavarian brand. “My first four-wheeler was a red Audi TT running car and this A4 is my first own car. My father always had an Audi diesel and recently he started driving a new E-tron. For me it had to be a TDI, an A4 or an A6. I made many test drives and gradually came to the conclusion that it had to be the A4. It is more compact and just as comfortable.”
Beautiful Audi Exclusive color is called Goodwood Green
Goodwood Green, xo is the name of the paint on Pieter’s Audi. It is an Audi Exclusive color that you rarely encounter and that would not look out of place on a classic Jaguar. The first owner paid a lot for it. “It is a really special version and it was delivered new in Germany. I immediately fell in love with it. Other nice options are the adaptive suspension, the S-Line packages on the inside and outside and the sports seats. The previous owner had wheels fitted from an A5, which I really like. The ET value is lower and therefore they are a little further out. Furthermore, there is the tuning. The seller told me that the engine should now have about 200 hp, but he didn’t know exactly. I notice that there is always more than enough power and that is wonderful.”
The 35 TDI is a tweaked 2.0-liter
At Audi, it requires quite some study to understand the type designations. This is a 35 TDI, which has the same 2.0-liter diesel as the 30 (122 hp) and 40 (190 hp) TDI. Next comes the 45 TDI, which has a 3.0-liter V6 with 231 hp. All of them are power sources that have disappeared from the Dutch price lists, because the A4 is no longer available as a diesel here. “This is a tweaked engine from which you can get quite a bit of extra power and torque without too much effort, which is what happened according to the owner,” says chassis dynamometer manager Ghisbert van Ginhoven. It soon turns out that the seller is not telling Pieter any fables. We note almost 200 hp and even more than 450 Nm of torque. Ghisbert does not seem surprised at all. “We have them here often and more than once the difference between the factory specification and the measurement is enormous.”
It is also frugal
More power than the 40 TDI and the torque is quite close to that of the 45 TDI, so you can come home with that. “I knew from the first moment that it had more than 150 hp, but not that it would be that much. Yet it is quite economical, with an average of 5.4 l/100 km. That’s a good thing, because my girlfriend lives in Veendam and my work is in Maassluis. That is a distance I often drive, but I still regularly spend the night with my parents and I can work from home. The only thing I notice while driving is that every now and then a plume of smoke comes out of the exhaust. It does not use oil, so the particulate filter must be regenerating. My intention is to continue driving for at least 200,000 kilometers. The only thing missing is a set of Audi Ingolstadt license plate holders, so I’ll have to get those again. I have not regretted my purchase for a moment. It is a top car.”
