Anyone who has a OnePlus 9 or OnePlus Pro can already update his or her phone to Android 12. The open beta of OxygenOS 12 is now available. it is also the first version of the software shell integrated with OPPO’s ColorOS. This is new.
OxygenOS 12 for the OnePlus 9 (Pro)
On Monday evening, Google presented the stable version of Android 12. We have already extensively discussed the most important new features in this article, and a striking fact was that the Pixel phones can only expect an update to Android 12 in the coming weeks. Who no longer has to wait are the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro users. At least if they want to venture into the open beta for OxygenOS 12.
OnePlus has already presented the test version of Android 12 on its forum, and it is important to know that it can come with the necessary errors and problems. The purpose of such a beta is therefore that such matters are resolved in time before the stable update to OxygenOS 12 is rolled out.
OxygenOS 12 is an extra special version of the software shell this year, as it is closely integrated with the code of OPPO’s ColorOS shell for the first time. OPPO and OnePlus will work closely together in all kinds of areas, the companies announced in September. OxygenOS 12 looks like a software shell of OnePlus devices, but you can recognize OPPO influences from small subtle things. For example, the security PIN now consists of six instead of four digits.
No Material You
The OnePlus 9 series gets a new design with OxygenOS 12, but OnePlus is not going to get started with Google’s Material You theme: the principle where the interface takes over the colors from the background of your phone. In its place, OnePlus comes with menus that are less information overloaded, more bold text, subtle shadows and gradient colors.
This includes an improvement for the Canvas always-on style. That is theme where the outline of a photo on the always-on screen can be seen when the phone is locked. There are more ways to personalize Canvas. We also find more personalization options for the dark theme of OxygenOS 12. You can choose from different shades of gray – there are not 50, but three – and they vary from light to dark.
New Shelf and Private Safe
With OxygenOS 11, the Shelf got a major update and OnePlus has changed the display again with OxygenOS 12. This time we see a layout consisting of cards with rounded corners. They should still give you access to the most important functions on your smartphone. The Shelf now has a new Scout function that helps you to quickly search through your phone. The search function takes a look through settings, apps, and other files and data. In addition, the appearance of the Zen Mode has been adjusted, and you can now choose a background color that calms you the most.
One feature that OnePlus has plucked straight from ColorOS is the Private Vault. It is a space where you can hide images, documents, sound files and more. They are then hidden under lock and key with your PIN code as a security key.
OnePlus is making available a new feature that was previously exclusive to Indian users. The ‘Work Life Balance’ function helps you to quickly adjust the operation of your phone to work or when you have free time. There is a ‘Work’ and a ‘Life’ mode, and you determine, among other things, which apps send notifications depending on the active mode.
