208 more often electric

The Peugeot 208 and the Opel Corsa are and remain very popular in the Netherlands. That success is not only because these are nice-looking compact hatchbacks, but also because both cars are also available with a fully electric powertrain. It makes a significant contribution.
Those who want or have to drive electric with a somewhat limited (lease) budget will soon end up with the sister models Peugeot e-208 and Opel Corsa Electric. There are still some alternatives, but the compact Peugeot and Opel do not only hit the mark with their electric powertrain. They are also ‘just’ smooth hatchbacks, and that makes them especially attractive for the younger target group for whom the aforementioned budget often applies.
In both cases, it is almost impossible to see from the outside whether you are dealing with an electric or regular powered version. This strategy appears to be successful, because the Corsa and the 208 have both been very high in the Dutch and European sales rankings for a long time. If we look at the first two months of this year in the Netherlands, the Corsa is at 2 and the 208 at 3. Last year, the Peugeot 208 was even the most popular car in the Netherlands. In other words, exchange pennies, where the exact position is at least partly dependent on the supply. The importer has already indicated that the sales figures are limited by what can be delivered, which also means that delivery times in many cases increase considerably.
The suspicion that the electric variants make a significant contribution to the popularity of these models is confirmed by the figures. When asked, Stellantis Netherlands indicates that the ratio with the 208 is roughly 50/50, so the electric 208 accounts for half of the total. With the Corsa, the traditionally powered version is usually slightly more popular, according to the figures per month. The petrol Corsa usually has a share of between 65 and 70 percent, with a peak of 71 percent in November 2022. In January of this year it was the other way around for the first time in months, and the electric Corsa had a small share of 52 percent. benefit.
It is no surprise that the electric 208 seems more popular than the electric Corsa. With a starting price of just under 37,000 euros, the Opel is considerably more expensive, while at Peugeot you can already zoom away electrically for €34,920. If that car can be delivered, that is. The Peugeot is also the only one that can be ordered with a new, more efficient powertrain for the time being and can therefore display a range of 400 kilometers. For the time being, by the way, only as a thick GT for €39,870, and again with a considerable delivery time.
Opel and Peugeot want to continue the policy set out with the Corsa and 208 in the higher C segment. The fully electric Peugeot e-308 and Opel Astra Electric have already been announced and should finally appear on the market this year. Also as a station wagon, by the way.
