The Opel Crossland will be replaced next year by a new crossover down to the tiniest nut. There will also be a fully electric version of that and it is that brand new EV that we can show you for the first time in these photos.

By now you would think that just about all compact models of the Stellantis brands use the CMP platform that you will find under cars such as the Peugeot 208, 2008, DS 3, Jeep Avenger, Opel Corsa and Mokka. Nothing is less true. Although the Jeep Renegade and Fiat 500X in the form of the Avenger and 600e successively have more modern CMP brothers, the Renegade and 500X are still on a much older platform. We also encounter cars at Citroën and Opel that are not yet endowed with CMP technology. Just like the Opel Crossland, the Citroën C3 and C3 Aircross are still based on technology from the previous generation Peugeot 208/2008. The Crossland started life in 2017 as Crossland X and will be followed next year by a completely new model that we can now show you on espionage image for the first time.

Successor Opel Crossland.

The Crossland stands side by side with the technically much more modern Mokka in the showrooms. The successor to the Opel Crossland also retains its place next to the Mokka, judging by the shape of the packed test model as a more practical alternative. Like the Mokka and now countless other Stellantis models, the Crossland that will be launched next year will most likely be on the CMP platform, the basis of which there is also a fully electric version called e-CMP. Opel has already indicated that the successor to the Crossland will also be available with an electric powertrain. Count on a 156 hp electric motor and a 54 kWh (gross) battery pack.

The fact that Opel recently spoke of a ‘Crossland successor’ instead of a ‘new Crossland’ probably indicates that the model will be renamed. Something similar awaits the Grandland. The successor to the Crossland seems to be growing a size and is basically similar to the Citroën C3 Aircross that was recently presented for various growth markets. Especially the window section of this packed test model is reminiscent of that car. Nevertheless, the entire front – including the hood – of this Opel is different and the tailgate is not interchangeable either. The C3 Aircross intended for growth markets is also on a CMP basis, which can of course explain the apparent similarities. The headlights are striking. They seem to have been rehoused in what Opel calls its ‘Vizor’. The viewers have a new light signature for Opel in which the vertical part of the LED layout has been replaced by a set of stripes.

In the middle of last year, Opel produced the 500,000th Crossland. To date, 19,639 Crosslands have been registered in the Netherlands.
