The Opel Grandland X is entering its second phase of life. The SUV undergoes a fairly thorough facelift in which it is suffused with Opel’s new design language. The model is now called Grandland and therefore loses the ‘X’ in its name. Opel already demolished the X from the model names of the Mokka and Crossland. The Grandland will be at dealers this fall, prices will follow soon.
The Mokka was Opel’s first model to receive a body with the new design language. It was quickly followed by the facelifted Crossland X, which, like the Mokka, lost the X and was given the latest house style. Now the Grandland X has also gone under the knife according to the same recipe, whereby the X was also unceremoniously deleted.

It could just be that you see the Grandland in these photos for a new generation, but nothing could be further from the truth. The designers did not hold back behind the drawing board. The model has been given a completely new face. It’s done with the grille placed separately from the headlights. The Grandland proudly wears the ‘Opel Vizor’ on its snout, the relatively flat-looking, dark panel with which the headlights optically merge. If you look closely, you can see that Rüsselsheim has not completely polished off the original design, as the headlights on the corners fall outside the Opel Vizor. Lower on the nose is a rather playful front bumper, with angular, vertical slots at the corners. The bumper is cleaved by a body-colored beam that houses the number plate.

There is also news behind the headlights. The Opel Grandland is in fact available for the first time with the IntelliLux Led Pixel Light technology, known from the Insignia. Adaptive LED matrix viewers with a total of 168 individual LEDs. The novelties are less evident on the back. There is a revised rear bumper and completely in line with current fashion, the model name is written on the tailgate.
Interior
The interior has also been thoroughly overhauled. Although the center tunnel is virtually unchanged, the upper part of the dashboard is almost completely new. The whole looks identical to that of the Mokka, but it is not quite. Also in the Grandland a large black panel that Opel calls ‘Pure Panel’. It is a wide black whole in which a completely new digital instrumentation has been processed for the Grandland and in which the infotainment screen is also housed. The software can handle things like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The ventilation grilles on both sides of the Pure Panel are also new, the same applies to the air conditioning outlet opening lower in the center console. The tailgate can now be opened – optionally – electrically and hands-free by flapping your foot under the rear bumper.

Rüsselsheim even saved a first for the Grandland. It is the first Opel to be available with Night Vision. With infrared cameras, the system detects pedestrians and animals at a distance of up to 100 meters and gives a warning signal to the driver if necessary. The Grandland is also available with Highway Integration Assist that keeps the Opel neatly in the middle of the lane and keeps a distance from the vehicle in front. Whoever checks the Grandland with this system can make his kilometers semi-autonomously thanks to the stop&go function in the traffic jam. Safety systems such as Front Collision Warning with pedestrian detection, Lane Departure Warning, traffic sign recognition, fatigue detection and cruise control are standard.
The engine list will again include blown petrol and diesel engines. The 224 hp Hybrid and 300 hp Hybrid4 plug-in hybrids also return. Opel will soon release the prices of the Grandland. The first copies will be delivered this fall. Since the Dutch market introduction of the Grandland X in 2017, almost 12,000 units have been sold in our country. The car had its top year in the Netherlands in 2019, when 4,553 units left the Opel showrooms.
