They still exist!

‘If you stay normal long enough, you will automatically become special’. That statement certainly applies to this Opel Kadett. You don’t spot a Kadett D any time soon anyway, but certainly not one that looks like this one.

The Opel Kadett A, B and C have become sought-after classics, but the Kadett D had a somewhat different fate to a certain extent. It was not only a relatively short-produced generation, but also one that has always remained a bit undervalued. The flush is therefore very thin in the used car range and certainly the ordinary copies have apparently almost all disappeared. Yet we found another one. Not just any one: as far as is known, this example has had only one private owner in its entire existence and it has only just over 20,000 km on the odometer. The latter is not entirely certain given the five-digit counter, but the optical condition of the car does not immediately tell a different story.

This very simple Kadett, a 1.3 N, still looks neat in its tasty basic white lacquer. We also see a neat interior, especially for its age. The skai upholstery is not torn, the steering wheel is still neat and the headliner also still looks sleek. The original radio is even still present, although it has to be helped back into the dashboard. It is not entirely unimportant that we do not immediately spot worrying rust spots in the photos. They would certainly stand out quickly with such a white Kadett. Rust wanted these Kadetjes once, but this one seems to have stayed out of the rust devil’s clutches.

The 1.3 N was not the entry-level version of the Kadett D. After all, you also had the Kadett with the older 1.0 and 1.2, the 1.3 came from a new engine family and had an overhead camshaft. Something that was proudly indicated with ‘OHC’ large on the block. It should also be clear that here in 1982 someone walked into the Opel dealer with a hand on the cut. Someone who could be content without too much luxury. An automatic transmission was chosen, that is. That made driving a bit easier, although at the same time it did take a lot of momentum off.

A nice detail is that it is a sedan, contrary to what you might expect based on the shape of the car. This has the boot lid with the striking hinges just below the rear window. That makes it even rarer, because if you spot a Kadett D, it is often a hatchback or Caravan. All in all, it is a pretty rare survivor, which for that reason can now also cost quite a bit. €4,250 is requested. By the way, it has been for sale for quite some time, so there may still be some room for sale. Who will give it a warm new home?
