A rusty brown Opel Kadett D, how Dutch do you want it to be? Nowadays something like this is quite striking, but in the 80s this was a well-known scene. Who will bring this time capsule into their home?
Of all the Kadetts, the Opel Kadett D is the most forgotten, even though it was the first with front-wheel drive. It really wasn’t a very interesting car. This Kadett was the epitome of down-to-earth… At least, then we might be ignoring the rather exciting GTE a bit too easily. Anyway, we don’t have a GTE for us here. No, this is just a Kadett as you could find it on every street corner in the 80s.
We must also note that this copy with its fog lights and spotlights has a bit more ‘face’ than normal. It seems a bit sporty, because we are dealing with a 1.2. A Kadett with only 60 hp, with a four-speed manual gearbox. You may be able to imagine the noise you experience on the highway. If you want to drown that out, you have to rely on a cassette player. Yes, you really go back in time with this Kadett. That in itself is charming, but is it worth the money?
This Kadett has been for sale for at least two months now and we believe this is not just because there is not much market for it. The asking price of €6,950 is somewhat ambitious. It is indeed a nice thing, especially as a ‘sedan’ (yes, that lid really goes up without the rear window) and it still seems to look quite nice, but even the most die-hard Opel fan will undoubtedly want to make a better deal . Sooner or later it will certainly work, because this is now an enthusiast’s car pur sang.
