Opel promises exciting news: more of the Manta?

It’s not June yet, but Opel is already looking ahead to the news it will bring to IAA Mobility in September. Opel takes two well-known renewed models with it, but also conjures up something that we have not yet seen.

In more than three months, not Frankfurt, but Munich will once again be the stage of the annual IAA car show. During IAA Mobility, which traditionally takes place again in September, Opel will present three world firsts, as it says itself. We already know two of them, but are experiencing their public debut. We are talking about the facelifted Opel Corsa Electric and the electric Opel Astra Sports Tourer Electric, the station wagon based on the Astra Electric hatchback. And what about the third scoop? We also have to guess about that, Opel is in any case quite mysterious about this.

According to the brand, IAA Mobility in Munich is also the stage on which it presents ‘a surprise’. According to Opel, it will be an “inspiring, expressive statement for the future”. You still owe us a concrete interpretation of this. In any case, it sounds as if Opel is conjuring up a concept car. Possibly it shows something to do with the future electric Manta. After all, in mid-2021 Opel announced that the Manta will return in a few years. The new Manta will not be a coupe according to the old stamp, but judging by the design sketches shown almost two years ago, a large electric crossover. The electric Manta was previously referred to as Manta-e, but nowadays Opel no longer uses the -e designation for its electric models. The Corsa-e and Mokka-e are now called Corsa Electric and Mokka Electric and the electric Astra has also received the Electric addition. So count on ‘Manta Electric’ as an indication.

Whether Opel actually shows anything from the new Manta Electric remains to be seen. The fact is that Opel has big plans in the electrical field. After all, from 2028 the brand will only sell fully electric cars.
