Opel Tigra (1997) – Enthusiast Wanted

Recently we reflected on a nicely preserved Opel Astra, now we focus our spotlight on another Opel that has aged even better. This Tigra has escaped the clutches of various known enemies.

Do you sometimes think back to the times when brands such as Opel and Ford came up with flashy coupes? The 90s were golden years in that regard. A nice coupe with its own unique carriage based on a B-segment car? Why not, Opel and Ford thought with the Tigra and the Puma respectively. In the same decade, cars such as the Opel Calibra, Peugeot 406 Coupé, Audi TT and Fiat Barchetta appeared. Anyway, we’re digressing a bit while daydreaming, because now the Opel Tigra is the focus.

It’s not just any Opel Tigra either, but a very neat one. A wonderfully typically colored one from 1997 with a quiet past. Only 77,614 km are on the odometer and there are more things that suggest that this car has really been handled with kid gloves. This way, the interior also looks fresh and, above all, the car radiates authenticity. Tigras were quite willing victims of ‘tuners’, who put the cars on different shoes, gave them big exhausts, stuck angry glasses on the headlights and pumped the entire trunk full of subwoofers. None of that with this Tigra. In fact, the original cassette radio is still there! Another big plus is that not only the ‘tuners’, but also the rust devil apparently stayed away from this Tigra.

Opel Tigra

Not an aftermarket ‘sports steering wheel’ or chunky audio system in sight.

In short, you want a Tigra like that, if you want a Tigra. If we have to mention some negatives: it is a 1.4, a 1.6 would have been a bit more fun. It is also not an original Dutch car, although the only Dutch owner owned it for 15 years. With an asking price of €2,950, it is on the pricey side for a Tigra, but that is also understandable. In absolute terms, you can get what we consider an iconic Opel in nice condition for relatively little money, so if you look at it that way…
