Operate iPhone without touching the screen: this is how Tap back works

It’s one of the most useful features in iOS 14, but not everyone knows about it: Tap back. With this you can, for example, turn off the sound of your iPhone or open Siri by briefly tapping the back of your smartphone. That is how it works.

Tap on back in iOS 14: that’s how it works

Switch off the iPhone or bring up the control panel without having to touch the screen: it is possible thanks to Tap on the back. This new feature in iOS 14 allows you to control your phone with two or three taps on the back. Here’s how to enable Tap on back:

  1. Grab your iPhone and open the Settings app;
  2. Choose ‘Accessibility’ and tap ‘Touch’;
  3. Scroll down and select ‘Tap on back’;
  4. Then choose what to do when you tap the back of your iPhone two or three times from the list of options.

The possibilities are virtually endless. For example, you can indicate that the screen turns off when you tap the back twice, or that a screenshot is taken.

Requirements

Tap on back in iOS 14 does not work on all iPhones. Your Apple phone must support tap to activate. In practice, the above function only works when you have an iPhone X or newer model.

Is there a protective cover on your Apple phone? In principle, this shouldn’t be a problem and Tap the back should just work. Only when the protective cover is very thick it may not work.
