Panasonic and Tesla will shut down the production of battery packs for Tesla’s electric cars. The interruption lasts at least two weeks, according to Panasonic on Saturday.
The work in the so-called Gigafactor 1 in the US state of Nevada will be phased out at the beginning of this week, after which the work will be suspended for a fortnight. Tesla said last Thursday that the activities in the Gigafactory 1 could continue as normal. It is not known whether the delivery of Tesla models will suffer from the decision. Earlier this week, the brand announced it would interrupt work at its car plant in Fremont, California on March 24.
According to Panasonic, the approximately 3,500 employees will continue to be paid during the production break. California and Nevada are two of the four states that have announced additional emergency measures to combat the spread of the Corona virus. New York and Illinois have also decided that.
