Particulate filter test during inspection of the track

A planned particle filter test at the MOT of diesel cars has been canceled. The House of Representatives has voted in favor of a motion not to pursue this plan.

A year ago it was announced that the government wanted to introduce a particulate filter test for diesel cars. That would then become part of the MOT as of next year or 2022. The plan was to test the functionality of the particulate filters ex works with a particle counter. If the diesel particulate filter does not collect enough harmful particles, it must be cleaned or replaced. State Secretary Stientje van Veldhoven (D66) estimated last year that 100,000 to 125,000 diesel cars would fall through the basket in the test. That number was against the chest, among others, Member of Parliament Remco Dijkstra (VVD). He filed a motion not to include this test in the MOT and that motion has now been passed, reports BNR.

Dijkstra is of course pleased that his motion has been passed. He is pursuing a different approach, which, in his view, does not immediately cost such a large group of Dutch people. “It is better to realize a European introduction of the MOT test. The State Secretary must focus on this. After all, air quality does not adhere to borders and so many people are harmed at the moment is really ‘overdone’. Give them some time and / or alternative “, Dijkstra explains on Twitter.
