The price of petrol and diesel has never been so high. The national suggested retail price for a liter of diesel is now 1,659 euros, according to data from United Consumers. Petrol is for the first time in history above 2 euros per liter.

Incidentally, in many places you can just fill up with petrol or diesel for lower amounts. According to United Consumers, it is quite possible to find E10 (Euro 95) away from the highway for around 1.70 euros, because many gas stations offer discounts.
Petrol price rises due to rising oil price
The reason for the continued price increase at the pump is the price of oil, which is picking up due to the global economic recovery after the corona crisis and the fact that the oil-producing countries are only opening the tap to a limited extent. A barrel of Brent oil currently costs more than $80. That price has not been this high since 2018.
Petrol in particular is much cheaper in Belgium and Germany
So to kick in an open door: if you live near the border, take a detour. In Belgium, a liter of petrol is about 18 percent less expensive than in the Netherlands. In Germany the difference is about 16 percent. You don’t have to cross the border for diesel. Fuel is more expensive in our southern neighbors than here. In Germany only slightly cheaper.
