Diesel is still more expensive

Fuel has been getting less and less expensive for a while and especially the petrol price is falling rapidly. One liter of petrol is now almost at the level of just before the Russian invasion in Ukraine. Diesel is still more expensive than it was then.
The Average National Recommended Price (GLA) for a liter of petrol is now €2.24. Almost at the level of just before Russia invaded Ukraine at the end of February and prices subsequently soared. On February 24, the GLA price was €2,195, a week later the liter price was already approaching €2.30. There is an important caveat to the current price: in April 17 cents per liter of excise duty was deducted for petrol, for diesel it was 11 cents.
Speaking of diesel: it is still more expensive than it was then. €2.11 is currently the GLA price. Until the beginning of March, so until shortly after the invasion, the price per liter of diesel was still below €2. The fact that diesel remains relatively expensive is largely due to Russia. Europe is highly dependent on Russia for the supply of diesel, but also on oil for its own refining. Moreover, refining costs more energy than with petrol and energy costs are currently very high.
Although fuel remains relatively expensive, the fall in prices seems to continue for a while. This is largely due to falling oil prices. The weak euro against the dollar (with which oil is traded) dampened the decline somewhat.
