Petrol price locally again below 2 euros per liter

‘1.50 won’t come back’

Petrol price locally again below 2 euros per liter

Petrol price locally again below 2 euros per liter

You may have already noticed: at some gas stations you can get another liter of petrol for less than €2. Petrol prices are expected to drop further, but don’t expect miracles.

In the Netherlands it is possible to refuel locally for less than €2 per liter of petrol (E10). In some cases, the petrol price is even just under €1.95 per litre. You do have to search for that, especially at unmanned gas stations. According to Paul van Selms of UnitedConsumers, which keeps track of the recommended prices of fuel, the price for E10 is now less than €2 at about 5 percent of gas stations. He tells that to NU.nl.

In October last year, the average national suggested retail price exceeded €2 per liter for the first time ever. We are not back at that point yet, the suggested retail price for E10 is now at €2.18. In addition, there is still an excise duty reduction of about 17 cents per liter, which will disappear after this year. According to Van Selms, there is not much cause for optimism for petrol drivers: “The prices of the past, when you could refuel for €1.50 per liter, are really not coming back.” He does, however, expect that the price of petrol will fall further in the near future.

The suggested retail price of a liter of diesel, just like that of petrol, is also above €2 per litre, at €2,058 to be precise. For a liter of LPG, that price is now at €1.072. Locally, as mentioned, you can refuel for (far) below that price. It is therefore worthwhile to find out where the cheapest pump is located in the area. These are usually located a bit further from the highway and are unmanned.
