Fresh look, new technology

Although the Peugeot 2008 cannot match the success of the 208, Peugeot is doing pretty good business with it not only in the Netherlands, but also in Europe. To maintain momentum, Peugeot gives the 2008 a facelift after about four years. This mainly benefits, but not only the electric Peugeot e-2008!
Highlights Peugeot 2008
- New powertrain for electric e-2008: up to more than 400 kilometers range
- New family face, slightly modified rear
- Mild hybrid petrol engine will follow in 2024
The 208 is currently by far the absolute success number of Peugeot. The small Frenchman was the best-selling car in Europe in 2022 and was good for fourth place in the European sales ranking in the first quarter of this year. The Peugeot 2008 falls just outside the sales top 10 in Europe, but is certainly an important instrument for the brand to bind the consumer. Since the model’s introduction in 2019, almost 700,000 units have been sold worldwide. The 2008 Peugeot also provides a generously invested sandwich in the Netherlands. Since the Dutch market introduction of the current second generation, it has been the most popular Peugeot after the 208. To extend the success of the 2008, the crossover is being reintroduced with a refreshed look and revised technology.

New design
Just like the facelift that Peugeot carried out earlier this year on the 508, the side point session that the 2008 undergoes has a lot to do visually. In fact, Peugeot partly modifies the 2008 in a similar way. More than before, the grille apparently escapes the border indicated by the bumper. The grille, now made up of vertical segmented stripes on the Allure and GT versions, visually merges into the bumper at the sides. Those who choose the Active variant get a grille that is made up of horizontal, glossy black elements. With the 2008 GT trim we see renewed headlights that now house three traditional LED wicks. Regardless of the version, the renewed Peugeot will now have three LED tails in the bumper. That used to be just one. In the center of the nose we see the new Peugeot lion.

Remarkably enough, that logo does not return at the back. The Peugeot emblem that used to be above the license plate disappears. Again Peugeot writes its brand name between the taillights, but this time in a considerably larger font. The rear lights are also modeled differently. The three vertical LED parts have to clear the field, just like before with the 508. In the revised Peugeot 2008, they make way for six horizontal stripes. Peugeot writes out the model name and type designation in its new typography and, in addition to new colours, brings a set of new 16- to 18-inch wheels to the compact crossover. The new paint colors listen to names such as Gris Selenium and Blanc Okenite.

Interior Peugeot 2008
The interior of the facelifted crossover makes a familiar impression. In the center of the steering wheel we see the new Peugeot emblem, various chrome-colored accents make way for black and the small gear selector of the transmission has been exchanged for the smaller gear selector integrated in the center tunnel that you know from other recent Stellantis products. Peugeot is introducing other trims, including new Alcantara trim for the GT flavours. The Allure and GT versions have a full 10-inch digital instrument panel behind the steering wheel. Previously, the lower-positioned versions had a 7-inch screen in the center of the center console, but from now on every 2008 here has an infotainment screen with a diagonal of 10 inches. The system does offer more options in the Allure and GT variants. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connection is possible. More convenience comes with the Allure and GT in the form of three USB connections. An inductive charger is standard on the GT, but at extra cost on the other versions of the Peugeot 2008.
Technique: Peugeot e-2008 up to 406 kilometers electrically
The electric variant is called e-2008 again. Just like the DS 3 and Opel Mokka Electric, it will have a completely new powertrain. The 136 hp electric motor makes way for a 156 hp strong one and the 50-kWh battery pack also makes way for a more potent one. The new battery measures 54 kWh. This new and above all more efficient powertrain gives the electric Peugeot e-2008 a larger range. Where the electric 2008 previously reached a WLTP range of 345 kilometers, the new model records 406 kilometers.

Mild hybrid follows
At the Dutch market launch in the summer of this year, not only the electric variant of the 2008 is available. That e-2008 will soon be on the Dutch price list together with three combustion engines. The Peugeot 2008 will be back soon with a 100-hp 1.2 PureTech three-cylinder that is always linked to a manual six-speed gearbox. In addition, Peugeot offers the 2008 directly with the 130 hp variant of the same 1.2, which always goes together with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Dieseling is possible with a 130 hp 1.5 BlueHDi machine that, like the 130 hp PureTech, is always linked to an automatic transmission.
A mild-hybrid powertrain is still conspicuous by its absence, but it will eventually come. At the beginning of 2024, Peugeot will also introduce a 136 hp PureTech petrol model with a 48v mild hybrid system. This variant has a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and should be up to 15 percent more economical than the 130 hp 1.2 PureTech.
There are no Dutch prices yet, which will follow in the run-up to the market introduction.
