Spyshots Peugeot 508

Time flies, also in the car world. The Peugeot 508 is already one of the oldest models that Peugeot offers in Europe and so a facelifted 508 is eager to show its face. That new face remains hidden behind camouflage stickers in these first photos of the renewed Peugeot 508, but it is already quite clear what the sharpened French mid-sized car will bring for news.

In a relatively short time, Peugeot has renewed a large part of its model range. The current 2008 appeared just like the 208 in 2019, the 308 was presented in 2021 and this year Peugeot even added a completely new model to its delivery range with the 408. The 3008 and 5008 both came on the market in 2016 and are therefore in fact the seniors of the Peugeot family. However, these two SUVs were facelifted at the age of four in 2020, whereby the two were fitted with a front that shows some similarities with that of the 308 and 408. The Peugeot 508 has been running since 2018 and is not old at four years, but now one of the older models. Like the 3008 and 5008, the 508 gets a facelift after about four years to make it current again.

The rear lights of the renewed Peugeot 508 show strong similarities with those of …

In these photos the modified Peugeot 508 Saloon – the liftback – can already be seen from the front and rear. The snapped test model hides the majority of its novelties under the applied sticker work, but at the front the headlights that pierce through the camouflage work attract attention. It seems that Peugeot is giving the 508 headlights in the style of the 308 and 408, flatter ones that give the car a more aggressive face. We are also committed to the arrival of tighter LED tusks, a revised grille and subtly different bumper work for the 508 front.

Peugeot 408

… the 308, 308 SW and 408!

Peugeot also adjusts the lighting on the back. The evidence of that is obvious. The Peugeot 508 will have taillights with the same light signature consisting of oblique streaks as the 308, 308 SW and 408. Count on the arrival of, among other things, a renewed infotainment system and possibly a modernized digital instrumentation.

Peugeot 408

The 508 also seems to get 308- and 408-style headlights. (Pictured: Peugeot 408).

Then the big question: what does Peugeot have in store for the 508 in terms of engines? That remains to be seen. Both the 508 Saloon and the station version 508 SW are available with PureTech 130 petrol engines and with two plug-in hybrid powertrains. The mildest of these is 225 hp strong, the most powerful variant kicks it up to 360 hp and is reserved for the sporty PSE versions. It is not inconceivable that Peugeot will also install the 180 hp plug-in hybrid powertrain that is already supplied in many Stellantis products in the 508. After all, the delivery range of the Citroën C5 Aircross was recently expanded with the 180 hp more plug-in hybrid powertrain.

Peugeot 508L

The Peugeot 508 L is longer than the 508 Saloon and is not a liftback but a sedan.

We conclude with a perhaps interesting 508 tidbit. Did you know that the Peugeot 508 is also available in China as a 508 L? That’s a 508 with a longer wheelbase. Unlike ‘our’ 508 Berline, this is not a liftback, but a real four-door. In addition, the Peugeot 508 L does not have stylish side windows like the 508 Berline that does have in Europe.
