Peugeot has been heating up the world for some time before the arrival of an extra spicy 508. However, this plug-in hybrid features the new PSE logo as a sporty label. Could this be the end of the GTI era? CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato makes a cautious statement.
“As soon as we use the GTI label again, it will happen on a sporty 208,” Imparato tells the British company Autocar. “The 208 is the only car in our portfolio that can claim this logo, even if it is an all-electric variant.” So if a sporty Peugeot 208 appears on the market, he will get the famous initials pinned, according to the Frenchman. Although there is a good chance that there will be such a 208, Imparato builds in well with many “but” ones and “if” ones.
Why Peugeot also chooses the new Peugeot Sport Engineered (PSE) as its label? “The electrified drivetrain is not the same feeling for a user; it is a new performance. ” Peugeot has now been teasing its first PSE product: a souped-up 508 Hybrid. Reportedly, up to 2,000 copies of this car are to be built.
