Between MG and Taycan

Until recently, those who really wanted an electric station wagon could choose between a relatively cheap MG and an absolutely expensive Porsche. Stellantis comes to the rescue with, among other things, the electric Peugeot e-308 SW, but what does the basic version have to offer for just under 45 grand?

At Stellantis they seem to be planning to simply electrify every existing model. Station wagons are simply part of that, so electric versions of the Opel Astra Sports Tourer and its French example, the Peugeot 308, are appearing. The electric versions of the Astra and the 308 are also very new as a hatchback, but the station wagons are of course extra interesting. With the arrival of the two new models, the number of electric station wagons has doubled in one fell swoop, and we assume that you see the low, sporty Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo as a station wagon.

As is usual with electric models, the price list of the electric 308 is nice and clear. It is available in the two body variants mentioned, with one electric drivetrain and in two different versions, where separate options are hardly possible. For example, a panoramic sliding roof is available on the GT version of the regular 308, but not on the e-308 GT and therefore not at all on the electric 308. There are also quite a few differences in equipment elsewhere between the electric and the regular 308. For example, the nice AGR front seats are unfortunately not available on the e-308 and keyless entry and the wireless phone charger only come together in one package with the EV. Steering wheel heating and ‘Pack Drive Assist 1’ are not included in the regular Allure version, but are standard in the e-308 Allure.

The e-308 Allure is the basic version and the only other version besides the visually more sophisticated GT. The ‘available with the regular 308Active Pack Business‘- version does not exist for the e-308, which means you can already guess that such an electric 308 is far from bare bones. Seat and steering wheel heating, automatic climate control, adaptive cruise control, an automatically dimming interior mirror and navigation make life on board as pleasant as possible. Although there is no choice in terms of upholstery, the combination of fabric and artificial leather that Peugeot calls ‘Falgo’ gives little reason to complain. A greenish stitching also gives the whole thing some color.

On the outside, such an electric 308 hardly distinguishes itself from the regular version, which will be seen as an advantage by many. Yet there is one important difference: the regular 308 Allure has 17-inch alloy, the e-308 Allure comes standard with 18-inch. The wheels are unique to this version and make the electric station wagon look a bit thicker. Even in terms of color there is no difference from the normal version. Stellantis chooses a ‘standard color’ for each model variant and in the case of the 308 SW this is always ‘Blue Avatar’. Would you prefer something else? No problem, because in almost all cases this is possible without paying extra. For example, we chose ‘Blanc Okenite’ for the majority of the photos, but gray, gray and black are also completely ‘free’. You only pay extra for the tasty ‘Rouge Elixir’, but the additional cost is very affordable at €250. Except today, of course, because this is ‘Back to Basics’.
