Pinpoint is an open source key launcher that lets you perform tasks and launch programs. This tool makes it possible to get to programs and settings super fast, without taking your fingers off the keyboard.
Launch the launcher
After installation, find the P icon in the system tray and right-click to open the settings. To stay with the principle of this launcher, you can of course also open the tool itself by means of a key combination. That’s normal Alt+Spacebar, but this combination is often used in other programs. Everything works perfectly if you enter a different combination in the Settings, as Alt+P. This will open a floating search bar on the desktop.
Typing first letters
Type the name of a program. From the moment Pinpoint recognizes the letter combination, it will display the possibilities with icon and path. For example, if you type fir, the possibilities will appear Firefox, Windows Firewall, Customize Firefox and Windows Defender Firewall. You double click on the appropriate icon to open the program. You can also use keyboard shortcuts, such as Ctrl+1 for the first result and Ctrl+2 for the second and so on. You can also use Pinpoint to access the various Control Panel options.
Plugins
The program comes with a lot of plug-ins, such as a calculator. You type the formula (without spaces) in the search box and the tool presents the result. There also is a Finance Plugin that tracks the market value of shares. For example, to know Microsoft’s rate, type $MSFT, so that the plugin pulls the result of Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) from Finance Yahoo. The currency and color converters work in the same way. And if you want to know the weather forecast for Amsterdam, type Weather Amsterdam. You don’t even have to take your fingers off the keyboard to shut down the computer. You just type shutdown. Conclusion
Pinpoint contains a lot of features, but does not work flawlessly because it is still under development. In addition, it is not possible to modify the sources of the plugins. Still, this is a pretty promising keystroke launcher.
