Pirelli recalls Tourance Next, Next II and Scorpion Trail 2: tread may detach

At Pirelli they had to roll out a serious recall. Under certain conditions, the Metzeler Tourance Next and Tourance Next II and the Pirelli Scorpion Trail 2 may develop an irregular wear pattern, which in a worst-case scenario could cause parts of the tread to come loose and/or the pressure in the tire to suddenly drop.

Pirelli recalls Tourance Next, Next II and Scorpion Trail 2: tread may detach

On September 9, 2024, Pirelli & C. SpA, the parent company of Pirelli and Metzeler, was informed by Triumph about warranty claims that the British brand had received from several European countries for the Tiger 1200 GT, GT Pro and GT Explorer with rear tire problems. Pirelli immediately started an investigation into the cause.

This taught Pirelli that under certain conditions of use (e.g. low tire pressure, heavy load, road conditions, mileage at almost half of the tire’s life, etc.) irregular tire wear can occur, which over time can lead to a breakdown of the 0 ° belt can lead.

If this condition occurs, the following symptoms may be observed:
– Excessive irregular wear in the central part of the tread can be visually observed.
– Local tread deformation in the central part of the tread due to underlying cracking can cause tire vibrations that can be observed while driving.
– Cracks in the groove base, exposing the underlying metal cords, can be visually observed.
– Broken metal cords at the base of the groove can be visually observed.

If this condition is not immediately detected, it can lead to partial tread separation and/or a sudden loss of pressure, which can result in loss of control and an increased risk of a crash.

The problem dates back to the very first production series of the Tourance Next in November 2016. In addition, the Tourance Next II and the Pirelli Scorpion Trail II also have the same problem.

Pirelli asks motorcyclists with the above tires to stop riding and to contact their Pirelli/Metzeler dealer or point of sale as soon as possible to make an appointment to replace the tire, and emphasizes that it is important that all recalled tires be removed from traffic as quickly as possible.

Replacement tires are expected to be available in November 2024. If your dealer does not have a replacement tire in stock, a tire can be ordered for you. The recalled tire will be replaced free of charge, including mounting and balancing, if returned on or before July 31, 2025.

This recall expires on July 31, 2025, so it is important to take action as soon as possible to determine if your tire is affected by this recall.
