Pixel Feature Drops: 4 Exclusive Features (December 2021)

Google regularly spoils users of its Pixel phones with a package of exclusive features. This time there are improvements for those who use Snapchat, but also the handy Now playing function that recognizes music. These are the novelties in a row.

1. Snapchat Features

Google is working with Snapchat on camera filters on the Pixels, but now it’s also faster to share a Snap. With the Quick Tap to Snap feature, you can double tap the back of the phone to take a Snap. That works with the Pixel 4a or later models. A new exclusive filter is also coming out. To get started with all these features, all you need to do is open Snapchat on your phone.

2. Improved Sound Amplifier

The sound amplifier is an accessibility feature that helps people with hearing impairments to better understand the people around them. The amplifier now works better on Pixels because you can now aim at your conversation partner with your smartphone. That helps your Pixel to focus on the user’s interlocutor in busier places with a lot of background noise. Disturbing background noise is filtered out.

3. Now Playing helps find songs (+ Pixel Buds)

With the Now Playing function you can recognize music tracks for years and the function can also work in the background. Now Playing’s song recognition works completely on-device, but your phone may not recognize a certain song. While your screen is locked, you can now press a search button that gives your phone permission to enable Google’s search engine to search for a correct match. Furthermore, on the lock screen, you can now press the music note of a song to save it as a favorite. It works on the Pixel 4 and new devices.

4. New Wallpapers

In honor of the International Day of People with Disabilities which took place on December 3rd, Google has rolled out a special set of wallpapers. For this, it collaborated with Canadian designer Dana Kearly, who herself has a disability. There are three new wallpapers in the Managed Cultural Moments theme in Wallpaper and Style.

More novelties

And then there are two more functions that we should not expect in the Netherlands and Belgium yet. Google can now detect car accidents in more countries. Your phone will then ask if you are okay. Without a response, your smartphone contracts the emergency services. It is not yet known when this function will appear with us.

Furthermore, Google can also transcribe more languages in the Recorder app, but it is not yet possible in Dutch either. The Pixel 6 can now also use its ultrawideband technology. This allows it to work as a digital car key in combination with some recent BMW models. It is not known whether this feature works in the Netherlands.
