Please note: deleted photos will reappear in iOS 17.5

iOS 17.5 contains an annoying bug that suddenly makes old, deleted photos come back. What is going on here?

According to several users on Reddit photos that they threw away years ago on the iPhone suddenly come back. Since installing iOS 17.5, these deleted photos can be seen again in the Photos app.

The problem is not limited to a handful of iPhone owners, as more and more users are experiencing this problem. Some users are seeing deleted photos from a few years ago, while others are seeing photos from earlier this year reappearing.

By default, the iPhone shows the photos you’ve deleted in a ‘Recently Deleted’ folder. You can find the folder by opening the Photos app and selecting the ‘Albums’ tab. Scroll down and you will find the folder under the heading ‘Other’. The photos will remain in this folder for 30 days after you delete them. Apparently something else is going wrong with the photos that suddenly appear in iOS 17.5.

Apple has not responded to the issue at this time. But getting the deleted photos back in iOS 17.5 raises quite a few questions. Some users on Reddit are now speculating that iOS 17.5 made some changes to the Photos app and required the app to re-index the files.

Still, it remains strange that photos that were deleted years ago are back. Apparently photos are stored in iCloud for longer than necessary. Do you also have old, discarded photos that suddenly resurface? Let us know in the comments below this article!
