The new Mercedes-Benz S-Class is already available in various types and (length) sizes. The Mercedes-Maybach acts as the pinnacle of luxury, while the yet to be unveiled AMG versions will soon take on that function in terms of sport. Today in front of our spy photographer: the Mercedes-AMG S-Class!
Mercedes-Benz supplied the previous S-class as more powerful S63 and S65 AMGs, and the AMG range of the new S-class also seems to consist of two versions. The S63 and S65 are likely to be succeeded by the S63e and S73e. The ‘e’ in the name indicates that the sporty top versions of the S-class are also electrified to a certain extent. One of the two newcomers has been caught in these photos. What seems? It’s a plug-in hybrid!
The new Mercedes-Benz S-Class, like the rest of the current Mercedes models, has the fuel filler flap on the right rear wing. This packed S-class has an extra flap on the left rear fender, which of course indicates that there is a loading opening underneath. The white S-Class betrays the presence of AMG DNA in its blood, among other things with its typical AMG tailpipes, imposing brakes and sportier bumper work. The railing on the nose with its vertical bars is also an indication of some AMG involvement.
It is not inconceivable that Mercedes-Benz will give the new S63, just like the Mercedes-AMG GLS 63, a mild hybrid biturbo 4.0 V8 and that the higher positioned S73 will get a plug-in hybrid powertrain. It is also quite possible that Mercedes-Benz will take the electrification of the S-class a step further than with the GLS and that the ‘entry-level AMG’ 63 will also have a plug connection.
