Polestar 2 gets update: ‘extra’ range and more

Polestar is rolling out an over-the-air update for the Polestar 2. It should ensure that you are less likely to reach 0 percent driving range and bring Android 10 to the car, among other things.

Polestar announces that there will be a significant update for the Polestar 2 in February. Remarkable in particular are the adjustments to the range. The Swedes say that the driving range improves, but it is said that from now on you can drive about 50 km longer before the car indicates that the battery is empty. Tweakers U.S. Practical tests would have shown that you now have about 70 km driving range if the car indicates that the battery is empty. Naturally, there is such a buffer to ensure that you do not just come to a standstill and to respond to battery degradation. After the update, this buffer will shrink from roughly 70 km to 20 km, which is where the ‘extra’ 50 km comes from.

Furthermore, after the update, Android 10 will be installed as the operating system for the infotainment. That goes hand in hand with some other digital tightening. For example, the surround sound of the Harmann Kardon installation must sound better and the 360-degree camera must work better and provide a better image. The favorite contacts from the phone are also automatically synchronized from now on. In addition, there is now Connected Safety, which receives information about potential dangers from other Polestars and Volvos via the cloud. Finally, after the update, Polestar promises a shorter charging time via a DC charger and ‘more stable’ charging via AC.

The update is already here, but currently only takes effect if your Polestar 2 is at the garage. The update will be available over-the-air in February. Collection and installation is free of charge while driving and can take up to two hours. If the update is paused because the trip is over, it will resume on the next trip.
