Polestar will expand considerably in the coming years. After the 1 and 2 come – you guessed it – the 3, 4 and 5. CEO Thomas Ingenlath explains what we can expect from those models.
Polestar parked three future models in front of the camera earlier this week. They were in one of the photos next to the already well-known Polestar 1 and Polestar 2, so of course we happily counted on to the Polestar 5. Not unjustly, because CEO Thomas Ingenlath confirms in conversation with the British coach that the new models were indeed in order of ‘name’ and we can therefore expect the 4 and 5 in addition to the announced 3.
pole star 3
Quite a bit was already known about the Polestar 3. Enough for AutoWeek to already look ahead extensively and to have the above sketch made of it. Ingenlath confirms the suspicions: the Polestar 3 will sit on the new SPA2 platform and will be roughly the same size as the next Volvo XC90, which also stands on that basis. Not quite, because according to the German CEO, the Polestar 3 will be slightly more streamlined than the XC90. The latter to emphasize the ‘sporty’ side of the 3. It will be, as the manufacturer calls it, a ‘performance SUV’. The Polestar 3 will be launched next year, according to Ingenlath from around €75,000.
Polestar 4
Until now, a bigger mystery has been the model that you see above under a cloth. It hadn’t surfaced before. Once again it turns out that counting the model numbers was correct and that this will be the Polestar 4. A higher number, so higher in the market you would say. That is not clear from the words of Ingenlath. The 4 is a big step lower in the market than the 3. The CEO is talking about an SUV with coupé lines, how could it be otherwise these days. We also detect a nose that looks more like that of the Precept Concept, although you can still recognize some Polestar 2 at the back. Expect the Polestar 4 to become the Polestar 2, which is the Volvo C40 versus the XC40. Logically, the 4 is also on the same basis. Ingenlath speaks of a price tag of at least about €45,000. Patience is required: the 4 will come in 2023.
Pole star 5
Finally, there’s the Polestar 5. Based on the silhouette we see above, that could only be one car: the production version of the Precept Concept. That’s right like a bus, according to Ingenlath. Where we were not quite right in previous expectations, was the moment when we can expect the Polestar 5 on the market. That turns out to be only in 2024. We recently saw a Polestar clearly recognizable as a Precept in a factory, but that does not mean that the introduction is already near. The 5, just like the 3, is quite high in the market and probably the two also share a lot of technology. That also means the SPA2 base with undoubtedly a top version with a power of (more than) 500 hp, which shoots from 0 to 100 km/h in 2 to 3 seconds. More interesting is that Volvo and Polestar already want to have taken a big step towards the 1,000 km range by 2024. So that’s promising for both the Polestar 3 and Polestar 5.
