Shortly after Lamborghini officially confirmed the arrival of a raised Huracán, Porsche reports the arrival of a high-on-the-legs 911. We are already acquainted with the adventurous Porsche 911 Dakar, which is also historically justified.
You can leave the design of versions and derivatives of models to Porsche. The delivery range of the Taycan and 911 now consists of countless variants, but it is not fast enough. Porsche is about to expand the 911 family with a raised version. It’s not going to be called 911 Safari. The special newcomer, whose first photos have now been released, will go through life as the Porsche 911 Dakar.
Although Porsche will present the 911 Dakar only in a week’s time during the Los Angeles Auto Show, the youngest 911 variant has been well portrayed, although for the time being it concerns semi-packed test models. The Porsche 911 Dakar gets plastic decoration around the wheel arches, stands higher on its legs, has modified bumper work all around and stands on special off-road tires. According to Porsche, the 911 Dakar has driven a total of half a million test kilometers. More than 10,000 of these were placed next to the asphalt. That distribution undoubtedly reflects the extent to which the 911 Dakar is actually used off-road by their buyers. Porsche already reveals that the ABS system of the 911 Dakar has been adapted for braking on unpaved terrain, but no doubt more adjustments have been made.
Porsche enthusiasts will have to be patient for a while. The Porsche 911 Dakar will make its public debut on November 16. The official announcement of the arrival of the 911 Dakar comes ‘coincidentally’ shortly after Porsche shed light on how two modified 911s climbed the world’s highest volcano. As mentioned, sister brand Lamborghini also comes with a raised supercar, which will be the production version of the Huracán Sterrato Concept from 2019.
