Porsche 911 gets a manual seven-speed gearbox

Porsche announces an update for the 911. The most special news hides the Germans in the transmission, because the manual seven-speed gearbox returns.

For the 911 Carrera S and 4S, Porsche announces the arrival of a manual seven-speed gearbox. This is available in addition to the standard eight-speed PDK automatic. Good news: it does not cost an extra euro at Porsche to switch gears with the newly available manual gearbox. Porsche has been working with a seven-speed manual gearbox for some time, as with the previous GTS models, but this is a first for the latest 911 series. The aim of seventh gear is to reduce the consumption of the thirsty sports car slightly. In addition, the car with the manual gearbox is 45 kilograms lighter than with the automatic. The Carrera S Coupé with manual gearbox should reach 100 km / h from a standstill within 4.2 seconds. Pedaling up to 308 km / h.

The buyer of this manual version comes standard with the Sport Chrono package. This package introduced Porsche on the Turbo S and includes a system to measure the temperature of the tires, PSM Sport mode to set the steering as desired and Porsche’s Track Precision App to clock lap times. Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) also finds its way to the manual 911, with which the Porsche cleverly adjusts the torque distribution over the wheels.

Furthermore, the manufacturer has ready adjustments for other versions. The 911 Carrera now has InnoDrive and Smartlift. The former system is an extended version of the well-known adaptive cruise control, Smartlift ensures that the nose of the 911 goes up slightly based on GPS data and, if not, scrapes over a speed bump, for example. In addition, new options are added to the lists of available leather and color types, such as the leather 930 package for the Turbo S.

Prices for the manual 911 versions are not yet known, but expect an amount of around € 160,000 for the Coupé and € 170,000 for the Cabriolet.
